Top 5 Reasons To Buy Vintage Clothing

Posted by on May 15, 2011 | 0 comments

In case you didn’t know, buying vintage clothing is not as easy as you may think.  When I go to estate sales and other venues, I am looking for the gems of times past.

So, you can image that I get asked quite often why I am so fixated on purchasing vintage clothing.  If you will bear with me I thought I would take just a few minutes and share some of the reasons why I love vintage.

#5 – It’s timeless.  I absolutely love to fantasize about the lives of the women who wore these fashions back in their time.  Then I stop and remember that great fashion is truly timeless and a dress from 30 or 40 years ago is just as beautiful today.

#4 – It’s eco friendly.  I grew up with the fundamentals that you never throw anything out and that things are passed from generation to generation.  Now, I’m fanatic about recycling plastics and such, so it’s not a far reach to say that you are helping the environment when you buy vintage.

#3 – It’s quality.  Have you ever noticed that when you buy new clothes today that after a few washes the color has already faded or you are finding problems with the fabric?  I just find that clothes made in times past literally stand the test of time.

#2 – It’s unique.  New fashion is great, but let’s face it, everyone is wearing it.  I love the idea of being unique, owning fashion that can’t be bought on a shelf.  With vintage, you are virtually guaranteed to never show up for an event wearing the same outfit as someone else.

#1 – It’s romantic.  I just feel different, closer with myself, when I’m around vintage.  Everything about the experience makes me feel warm as well as part of history and future of the people who came before me.

Please share some of your favorite reasons to buy Vintage.
